My name is Mikaelyn Kooyman and I am thrilled to be a part of the LGC team as an assistant coach!

A little bit about me- I am a mama of two and married to my high school sweetheart. We live in the Dallas area and love it here! I moved around a lot growing up, but the majority of my childhood was spent in California and Utah. I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Utah and worked as a registered nurse at Primary Children’s Hospital for about five years. I continue to work part time as a pediatric home-health nurse here in Texas.

My health knowledge has evolved over many years, and my personal experiences have been the catalyst for my desire to want to learn and grow in the coaching industry. For much of my childhood and adult life I was overweight. I tried countless ways to lose weight. I attempted to eat too few calories, focused too much on cardio, and turned to food to cope with stress. My sole desire was to be “skinny,” never placing value on being strong or having a good relationship with food. I spent years jumping from diet to diet. I would sometimes see results, but they never lasted.

Fast forward to a few years ago when I was newly postpartum and lacking confidence in my body. After several years of little movement and poor nutrition habits, I found the courage to restart my own wellness journey. At first, this consisted of lifting tiny dumbbells in my living room during naptime, but then ultimately turned into counting macros diligently while following an intense strength training program. I ended up losing over 50 pounds along the way through sustainable dieting and creating good habits surrounding exercise and food. I found myself sharing what I had learned with those around me, encouraging those close to me, and helping them to find results and confidence like I had. It wasn’t long before I wanted to become a coach to continue to be able to help others at a larger capacity.

I completed my coaching certification through Precision Nutrition, and working with clients has brought so much joy and fulfillment to my life. I want to help you find success and keep the promises you make to yourself in healthy, sustainable ways. I want you to see that you can find balance in the ability to enjoy foods you love while also seeing the results you want. I am here to support you through the hard moments, and celebrate you in your victories. You are capable of so much more than you ever thought possible, and I can’t wait to be a part of your journey! I feel very fortunate to be part of a team that focuses on building strength and confidence, reaching goals, establishing community, and creating sustainable habits that will last a lifetime!
